Poems on Poetry Day

Today is world poetry day so, just like every other day, I've written some poems. I thought I'd share them here as an update, and whilst I'm at it I'm sharing some poems written over the last few weeks and the paintings that go with them. I hope you enjoy.

Poetry

Opens hearts Entertains minds Tickles humour Resuscitates emotions Yielding joy

Seeing the world sprout

Pushing through the darkness

Resiliently

Imagining brighter days

Nonchalantly

Glistening with hope

Equalising

Questing

Updating

Inquiring

Nurturing

Offering

Xanadu

After long hot days

Under the baking sun

Tenderly retreating

Unveiling endings as

Mornings need evenings

Naturally

Practicing

Essential

Awareness

Creating

Effortless

Fluidity

Understanding

Life and Love

...

Strength in Weakness

Relief in Pain

Relaxation in Suffering

Vision in Blindness

Acceptance in Sickness

Prayer in Desperation

Calm in Distress

God in the Mess

Every day I try

With assistance

To get outside

Into nature's presence

To smell the petals

And notice the bees

To hear the birds

And feel the breeze

Almost every day

It is worth the energy

To connect with something

So much more than me

I live an upside down sort of life

A life where rest dominates

As my body won't cooperate

Where pain conjugates

And frustrations exacerbate

Because society can't accommodate

But it is in this space that God resonates

Encouraging me to contemplate

As I pray and create

To demonstrate and propogate

Love and hope over hate

I no longer hesitate

Though my strength may oscillate

In God's strength I celebrate

What's wrong with the world now

Everything is divided

Why can't we compromise

Start to find common ground

Fate isn't an option

We must work together

Victory must be peace

Freedom for everyone

Nettlesome moments

In the seat of lonely souls

Claw at my heartstrings

Creativity

Pure self actualisation

Reflecting the heart

Pain

Truer than the literal truth

To those that know

Daily

We search the skies patiently

Hoping for rainbows

When dreams are stilted

Stalled, halted

Hearts are damaged

Holes created

Yet dreams can change

Be adapted

Evolving into

Something magic

If I think of a temple

It isn't covered in gold

It isn't vast

It isn't soaring

It isn't imposing

There's no gate keeping

No boundary setting

It is small

Natural

Accessible

Simple

Open to all

Perhaps a beach hut

Or a community hall

A forest floor

Or by the sea when it roars

A temple to me is a welcoming place

Where we all feel safe

Where Jesus would be

Welcoming you and me
